Product: Bamboo Shark egg
Scientific Name: Chiloscyllium punctatum
Family: Hemiscylliidae
Origin: Indo-Pacific Ocean

The bamboo shark egg is the egg capsule of the species Chiloscyllium punctatum. It is typically a long, dark-colored, and angular capsule, often resembling "mermaid's purse".

The female deposits the egg in rocky areas or crevices in coral reefs. The embryo develops within this capsule, protected from the outside world until it is fully ready.

Features

  • Development Period: Approximately 3–4 months (depends on water temperature)
  • Structure: Hard, protective keratinous capsule
  • Appearance: Long, "purse-shaped" egg with spiral tendrils
  • Hatching: Hatches as a fully developed mini shark

Points to Consider

  • The egg needs to be kept in stable and clean water conditions
  • Strong currents should be avoided
    • Regular checks are required for mold and bacterial growth
    • After hatching, a separate grow-out tank is needed for the fry.
