The Blue Ribbon Eel, with its electric blue body, yellow snout detail, and slender ribbon-like form, is one of the most exotic and captivating moray species for marine aquariums. However, its adaptation to aquarium life is considered extremely challenging.
The Black Ribbon Eel is actually the juvenile form of the Blue Ribbon Eel. Young individuals are entirely black, but as they grow, they can transform into a vibrant blue in their male form, and in a more advanced stage, into yellow in their female form.
In its natural habitat, it lives by burrowing in sandy reef areas. It feeds on small fish and crustaceans.
Points to Consider
- Refusal to eat is a very common problem.
- Extraordinarily successful at escaping (a fully closed aquarium is essential).
- A very sensitive and stress-prone species.
- Can prey on small fish and shrimp.
- Recommended for experienced aquarists.
