Abudefduf saxatilis, is a large and active damselfish species recognized by its distinct black vertical bands on a yellow body. The name “Sergeant Major” comes from its striped pattern, resembling military uniforms. Its hardy nature allows it to adapt easily to marine aquariums.

It is a highly active and territorial species. Juveniles may swim in schools, but aggression can increase in adults. It may exhibit dominant behavior towards smaller and calmer fish.
