Valenciennea puellaris is a popular reef goby species known for its orange spots on a white body and its sand-sifting behavior. It constantly takes sand into its mouth, filters it, consumes organic particles, and helps keep the sandbed clean.
It thrives better in mature aquariums as it requires a natural sand fauna.
Things to Consider
- May starve with insufficient sand fauna
- May throw sand onto corals while sifting
- High risk of jumping in open-top aquariums
- Not suitable for newly established tanks
