Amblyeleotris wheeleri is a classic reef goby species that lives in symbiosis with shrimp. It is known for its "sentry" behavior, waiting on the sand.

It feeds slowly and cannot compete with fast fish. 

Due to its timid nature, it is affected by aggressive fish.
